For ROTEL OER projects, attribution must be included on each page when media is used (images, videos, music, etc.).

There are two options to choose from for attribution:

• Pressbooks automatic attribution
  • Automatically updated based on metadata inserted upon upload
  • Defaults to list form with default and unchangeable design
• Manual attribution
  • Must be created manually by the author to be included in the text for each chapter
  • Allows for customization

Once the decision has been made, it is important to be consistent throughout the book. This means for the Pressbooks automatic attribution, it is imperative that authors are consistent in including the appropriate metadata so Pressbooks can pull complete information. For manual attribution, it is necessary to maintain a consistent style for each page, so referring back to previous chapters to ensure that the choices made are the same may be necessary.

To assist in the completeness of attribution work, ROTEL can provide authors with a spreadsheet (provided by the Rebus Foundation) to keep track of images, videos, etc. used in their project that includes license, source, and other information that can help with this.
