Exploring the Language of Family Engagement
Before we can begin to apply the core competencies of family engagement, we must create a shared understanding of the language that describes engagement and involvement. From this lens, we will differentiate between language and phrases that are all too often used interchangeably:

- Conduct an inventory of parent involvement, family engagement, and family learning strategies and events that are facilitated there.
- Is the early childhood center or local school using “parent involvement”, “family engagement”, and “family learning” as interchangeable words?
- Categorize the strategies and events into “parent involvement”, “family engagement”, and “family learning”.
